And yes, the incident described in Neale's carol about Wenceslas is likely made up, but from what we know of the man it is typical, and could well have happened.

If you enjoy learning about the history of our traditional hymns and their authors, I invite you to check out my daily blog on the subject, Wordwise Hymns. I know a number of home schoolers use it for teaching on this subject in their curriculum.roberthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03435373461292769832noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5833151560508481939.post-29822735581177493892008-12-11T04:14:00.000-05:002008-12-11T04:14:00.000-05:00I am love this great site. We completed Latina Christiana I last year with my 3rd and 5th grade, and I can totally see how it's helped with their ability to decipher words.

In opening the LCII curriculum this school year, I was a little…a LOT intimidated by the translation of Latin throughout the curriculum, so I have yet to start it with the kids this year as I think it will be too overwhelming.

Nancymc's comment has clarified things for me. I think I might go ahead and use the program, but skip those parts (such as some of the translating, etc.) that I don't feel are directly useful for us. I think I might also stretch it out for 2 years as well.

I still believe that the study of Latin is very beneficial, but don't want to teach every single aspect of Latin "just because". I want to teach it with a purpose.

Thanks again for this wonderful post.

Joy @ Five J'sAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
